Application:
198216700 is the outer valve spring for 3-cylinder Perkins 403C-15, 403D-15, 403D-15T and 4-cylinder 404C-22, 404C-22T, 404D-22TA diesels (2.2 L). It is installed around the inlet and exhaust valves of engines that power JCB 3CX compact back-hoes, 45 kVA “Vista A” generator sets, MF 1700 tractors and mini-excavators, maintaining correct valve motion at speeds up to 3 000 min⁻¹.

Free length 48 mm, outer diameter 29 mm, wire diameter 3.2 mm, 6 active coils, solid length 28 mm. Material is chrome-vanadium spring steel (50CrV4) oil-quenched and tempered to 47 HRC, shot-peened to 0.25 mm A-intensity to raise fatigue life to 1 × 10⁷ cycles.
Material & performance features:
The 50CrV4 alloy (0.5 % C, 1 % Cr, 0.15 % V) offers 1 600 MPa tensile strength and 8 % elongation, resisting surge-set when exhaust temperature reaches 700 °C. Controlled shot-peening induces 400 MPa compressive stress on the outer surface, delaying fatigue crack initiation and extending service life to 12 000 h.
