Application:
The 2874A018 temperature sensor is engineered for Perkins 1104C-44T, 1104C-E44, 1104C-E44T, 1104C-E44TA and 1106C-E60TA turbocharged four- and six-cylinder diesels, and is equally at home on the 404D-22, 404D-22T, 404D-22TA and 1006-6 derivatives. These power units are widely used across Massey Ferguson 5465, 6460, 6465, 6470, 6475, 6480, 7465, 7475 and 7480 tractors, combine harvesters, 40–150 kVA generator sets, tele-handlers and light industrial sweepers. In these applications the sensor screws into the thermostat housing or cylinder head coolant gallery and continuously measures engine coolant temperature, providing a precise resistance signal to the ECU. This allows the ECU to manage fuel injection timing, electric fan engagement and cold-start aids for optimum combustion efficiency and emission compliance.
Technical specifications:
The unit is a brass-bodied NTC (negative-temperature-coefficient) sensor with 1/8" NPTF male thread and 19 mm hex, 58 mm overall length and 115 g mass. Its resistance falls from 10 kΩ ±3 % at 25 °C to 184 Ω ±10 % at 100 °C, delivering a steep, repeatable curve that the ECU can resolve to ±1 °C. Response time from ambient to operating temperature in flowing coolant is less than 15 seconds.
Material & performance features:
The sensing element is a glass-encapsulated NTC bead thermally bonded to the brass probe tip for rapid heat transfer and excellent long-term stability. The body is nickel-plated for corrosion resistance and over-moulded in high-temperature PPS resin, achieving IP67 ingress protection.
